HELLO Vet, the UK’s first veterinary practice to invite pet owners into treatment and recovery rooms, is running a scheme to spark young children's interest in veterinary care.
Little Vets is a hands-on programme designed for primary school pupils which gives them a behind-the-scenes glimpse into life in veterinary practices.
Now running for its second year, the scheme is rolling out across 30 primary schools in Hackney and Bushey.

The initiative combines interactive school visits with immersive in-clinic sessions at Hello Vet’s London Fields and Bushey clinics.
Together, the experiences introduce children to the science, skill and teamwork behind caring for animals, with around 4,000 children aged 6–10 expected to take part in the current programme.
Through initiatives like Little Vets, Hello Vet aims to make veterinary care more transparent, collaborative and community-led.
The programme begins in local primary schools, where a Hello Vet vet and nurse bring veterinary medicine into the classroom.
Children take part in activities such as an animal X-ray guessing game, watch live bandaging demonstrations, and volunteer to try real stethoscopes and otoscopes.
Through practical examples and real stories from the clinic, they are introduced to the science, skill and teamwork behind caring for animals.
At Hello Vet’s London Fields and Bushey clinics, the programme is extended to the wider community through free Little Vets clinic sessions open to local families.
Children, accompanied by a parent or guardian, are invited to step behind the scenes of a working veterinary practice.
Guided by practising vets and nurses, they explore clinical spaces, learn simple first aid skills and see how animals are examined and treated.

Each session concludes with a Little Vets graduation ceremony, where children receive a certificate recognising their participation.
The workshops are designed to go beyond the familiar childhood ambition of "wanting to be a vet" and instead offer a realistic and inspiring introduction to the profession.
Pupils take part in mock consultations, basic health checks and diagnostic demonstrations using real equipment where appropriate, while learning about responsible pet ownership and animal wellbeing.
By opening up the clinic environment and explaining what happens behind the scenes, the programme gives children a fascinating insight into the world of veterinary medicine and the vital role vets play in keeping animals healthy.
Through interactive experiences and accessible learning, Little Vets aims to spark curiosity, build confidence and inspire the next generation of vets and veterinary nurses.
Dr Oli Viner, co-founder and lead vet of Hello Vet, said: "Little Vets is all about opening up the world of veterinary medicine and giving children the chance to discover the magic behind how we care for animals – the science, love for pets and teamwork that make the profession so special.
"As a parent, I see that excitement first-hand. My daughter already says she wants to be a vet, and watching her experience that sense of wonder and discovery has been incredibly special.
"Through Little Vets, we hope to spark that same curiosity in more children and help them see that a veterinary career is something they could genuinely pursue."
Families interested in attending one of the Little Vets in-clinic sessions at Hello Vet’s London Fields hospital can register for free tickets via the booking link.
